About Yaya Moussa, Founder of Africa Prime
Dr Yaya Moussa is a proficient financial expert and entrepreneur with a wealth of experience spanning Europe, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. As the visionary behind Africa Prime, an online video streaming service empowering African talent, he now leads API – a new philanthropic initiative that provides essential funding and technical training for African filmmakers and creatives.
Throughout Dr Moussa’s career, he has assumed various key roles in finance. This includes serving as credit analyst with IBCA in Paris and London and manging finances at Caisse des Depôts et Consignations in Paris, overseeing the financial aspects of more than 400 public-private partnerships.
Dr Moussa's diverse experience extends to the the IMF, where he served as an economist. From September 2005 to June 2009, Dr Moussa served as the IMF's resident representative in the Republic of Congo ("Congo"). His responsibilities included local advocacy and monitoring the implementation of the IMF's reform program and collaborating with his HQs and international organisations such as the World Bank.
Dr Moussa earned his Ph.D. from Paris-Dauphine University, specialising in France's venture capital. He also holds degrees from the Paris Institute of Political Studies, a Master's from Columbia University, an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master from Oxford University. His MBA thesis centred on the management of oil contracts in Congo.
Dr Moussa has written numerous business papers and sector reports, including renowned surveys of the European venture capital and insurance industries published by Eurostaf Dafsa. Other notable achievements include delivering lectures on financial management at the University of Paris X-III and contributing to an IMF cross-country study on public financial management in Africa.
He previously held the position of vice-chairman for International Affairs on the Board of the Washington D.C. based think tank, World Affairs Council. He is also a honoured Fellow of the British Royal Society of Arts.
Dr Moussa resides in Washington D.C. with his family.
