Africa needs the US. And the US needs Africa. For both countries to thrive from this relationship, the relationship must be balanced. Leaders within Africa though need to take ownership and responsibility. Before expecting cooperation from other actors, Africa must first clean its own house. What is leadership in Africa? What is Africa’s own definition of policy, of democracy, of freedom? These are key questions, to which African leaders must give concrete answers. Africa is now facing two key challenges: the quality of African leadership and governance.
